What is a
Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM)?
CNMs
are educated to provide care for women throughout their life
cycle. This includes
family planning, preconception counseling, care during pregnancy and
labor, as well as catching the baby, supporting breastfeeding and
facilitating early bonding. Nurse midwives also provide well woman
gynecological care to women from their teen years through their
menopausal years. Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs) can do physical
exams, order medications, laboratory tests, ultrasounds, and
mammograms. They work
with their collaborating physicians to provide quality care for
their patients focusing on patient and family support and
education.
