What is Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM)?

CNMs can provide contraceptive and preconception counseling along with care during pregnancy, labor and birth. The majority of CNMs deliver babies in the hospital and are members of a multi-disciplinary team. Nurse-midwives also provide gynecological services from adolescence to menopause and beyond. They can do a complete physical exam, order screening tests such as pap smears, mammograms and blood tests. As Advance Practice Nurses (APNs) they are also licensed to prescribe medication.
